July 12 and 13: Hanneke van Rijnsoever
July 12 and 13, Hanneke van Rijnsoever exhibits at the gallery with works of art made of felt and concrete.
Hanneke van Rijnsoever works with felt and concrete.
Two worlds, seemingly far apart, she brings together.
To the soft felt she likes to add rough elements such as iron or pebbles.
She softens the hard concrete by combining it with felt or fabric.
Growing up in a large family in the countryside, she developed a love for earthy colors and materials used.
Hanneke embraces the idea that creativity grows when you have to make do with what is at hand. That is why she now has quite a collection of embroidery yarns, buttons and used iron, among other things. Inherited, found, recycled or given.
The use of rusty iron, loose threads here and there or unexpected edges, it is all part of Hanneke’s philosophy that much beauty resides in the imperfect.
The combination of materials and the earthy colors make the work pure, earthy, powerful and sometimes raw. It evokes various emotions such as recognition or sentiment, sometimes wonder. Or it prompts philosophical thoughts.
