Barbera Sterk and Marjolijn Houdijk
For March 14 and 15, Barbera Sterk and Marjolijn Houdijk are building a mixed-media installation in the gallery.
Barbera Sterk (Zoeterwoude) and Marjolijn Houdijk (Alphen a/d Rijn) met at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where they both graduated in 2024.
About Barbera’s work: Her work revolves around exploring the tensions between imposed patterns and her inner feelings, which often resist these structures. She experiences a constant struggle, but also an ambivalence: the desire to seek both closeness and distance. Although the repetition of patterns and forms provide grip, at the same time she feels the urge to escape them.
About Marjolijn’s work: Marjolijn’s art is at the intersection of time, space and human movement. She is fascinated by how the body interacts with the environment and how these interactions can be captured and expressed in art. Her work often reflects a dynamic interplay between physical form and the abstract concepts of time and spatiality.
They also work together. About this, they say, “What fascinates us in our work process is how each step-each thread, patch and stitching- touches the next, as we each follow our own path and keep moving together, through the search, until the work engages with each other.”
Thus installations are created, one of which they come to the gallery to create.
