October 11 and 12: Willy Schut
Oct. 11 and 12, Willy Schut will exhibit textile art in the gallery.
Willy Schut exhibited at the gallery in February 2023. Because she has fond memories of that, she asked to come back again with new work. I really like that, so for the first time someone is exhibiting here for the second time.
Just as a draftsman draws with pencil, Willy “draws” with needle and thread.
Her method is a combination of painting, appliqué and free machine or hand embroidery.
Materials on and joined together, form the skin for a new work. Freely and intuitively she embroiders on these, by hand and/or sewing machine. Sometimes paintings are created, other times spatial objects. Willy uses fabric, yarn, paint and anything else that makes the image better. This can be old and discarded material, as well as beautiful pieces of wood, newsprint, plaster or plastic.
Willy Schut has a rich history in textile art.
She attended various workshops and master classes and two art courses. One part-time course at the New Academy in Utrecht and until 2019 five fine years at Upgraders in Art, a Short Higher Visual Professional part-time course. These courses, workshops and master classes helped deepen her work and strengthened her aptitude for composition.
She has regular group and solo exhibitions, both with Gallery Absolutely and also with the group Windpower 10.
She works from her home studio.
