November 26 and 27, 2022 Kitty Korver exhibited at the gallery.

Meet the soft sister of ceramics

Kitty Korver makes bowl-shaped wall sculptures of soft, warm wool. After years of making ceramic objects, Kitty started making her own felt that she processes into these wall objects.

She sees wool as the soft sister of ceramics because wool and clay have corresponding processing capabilities, but wool is much softer, warmer and lighter.

The forms, unusually tight for felt, are technically innovative in textile art. The sculptures are often graphic in nature. The concave shape gives protection and security to the often sensitive contents. The design of the scale’s contents is almost always very willowy.

The felt is sound absorbent, so it can help reduce acoustic stimuli in a room.

Lately, working with ceramics is returning, but now in combination with the felt. Kitty sometimes adds self-injected porcelain elements to the wall sculptures, a beautiful and exciting combination of soft and hard.

Kitty has exhibited in galleries throughout the Netherlands, Europe and in Australia.
