High5
Art as encounter, dialogue, and shared inspiration.
More than 40 artists and guests from the LUCAS association.
What happens when artists not only display their work but also share their inspiration, their doubts, their sketches, and their thought process? When an exhibition doesn’t end with the artwork on the wall, but rather begins with the encounter between the artist and the audience?
With HIGH 5 – I See You, I Accept You, the LUCAS artists’ association presents a surprising and innovative three-day art event at Loods 6 in Amsterdam. Forty artists will not only open their studios to visitors but will also actively involve them in the creative process that precedes their work.
At the heart of it all is the universal gesture of the high five: a sign of recognition, connection, and reciprocity. In a time when polarization and distance often prevail, HIGH 5 makes a conscious choice to foster connection. To see the other person. To share ideas, stories, and imagination.
Under the guidance of curator Maud Oonk, the participating artists have been working together since April 2026 on a unique series of workshops, exchanges, and reflections. This collaboration not only forms the basis of the exhibition but is also made visible to the public.
Visitors are presented with the artworks in a carefully composed dialogue. In addition, sketches, notes, drawings, associations, and other sources of inspiration are on display. Together, they form a living archive of inspiration that offers insight into the often-hidden journey from idea to artwork.
HIGH 5 thus offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the artistic process. The public becomes not just a spectator, but a conversation partner. Not just a viewer, but a participant. This exhibition shows that art is more than just a final product. It presents art as a process of exchange, curiosity, and connection. An invitation to come together—artist, visitor, and city—and celebrate a moment of recognition together.
A high five as a work of art. An exhibition as an encounter. A weekend where imagination and connection come together.
